I’m in trouble and might lose my house.
It’s been hard to admit what trying to get healthy has caused
My financial situation is, in a word, shit.
Last year, I made the mistake of trying to get healthy. After years of weird injuries and organ issues, I was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) in September of ’21, so I spent ’22 trying to repair some of the damage I’ve suffered because of it. For the most part, it worked. A skilled surgeon corrected the disfiguration caused by hEDS-caused poor healing from previous surgery. I’m not walking with a cane anymore. I can breathe better. I also know much more about what’s wrong with me, why it’s wrong, and what I can do to avoid new injuries.
Unfortunately, all that took money and time away from work, and my insurance did not pay everything it said it would. I ended up having bills over $6,000, and I missed a lot of work due to my two surgeries and having to call off from the myriad of injuries, so I made about $4,000 less than the previous year. That’s a $10,000+ swing that my finances could not absorb.
It didn’t help that I had to replace my car three times in the last two years. People keep hitting me, totaling my car but leaving me untouched, so I can’t sue for damages. Replacing a vehicle is expensive…
